Holistic College Counseling That Goes Beyond Enrollment

At College Counseling Services we aim to build a relationship with families that goes beyond the day the college acceptance letters are sent. Our goal is to help students maximize their education in every direction and at all levels, while integrating authenticity, integrity and community into all of our consulting services.

Suggested Timeline  

 

Freshman/Sophomore years

  • Introducing the student and family to the admissions process
  • Developing a four-year academic plan
  • Planning co-curricular activities
  • Coordinating summer pursuits and internship opportunities 

Junior year 

  • Setting priorities for college planning
  • Researching colleges
  • Planning for college visits and college fairs
  • Preparing for standardized tests – PSAT, SAT and/or ACT, SAT II Subject Tests
  • Maintaining focus on academic and co-curricular goals
  • Developing strong relationships with teachers and counselor
  • Planning for summer activities and internship opportunities
  • Beginning Personal Statement in summer before Senior year
  • Developing college list by late summer
  • Investigating opportunities for local or on-site interviews

Senior year

  • Asking the right teachers for recommendations
  • Providing materials to the counselor for the Counselor Recommendation Letter
  • Finalizing list for college applications, including safety, target, and reach schools
  • Preparing for final college visits and interviews
  • Finalizing the Personal Statement, supplemental essays and applications
  • Deciding on Early Decision or Early Action
  • Guiding students who have been wait-listed
  • Assisting with final decisions and selections
